We all remember being at school, trying to shield our noses from the teacher with bad breath. But now that we are older, we’re the ones who don’t smell so great. Stress, sickness, heat, humidity, and lack of time for personal hygiene, can all eventually take their toll, leaving us with a less-than-ideal fragrance.

Fortunately, there are plenty of things you can do to keep yourself smelling great all day, even if you’re too busy to take a bathroom break. That’s why we put this list together of the top 10 tips to smell great all day!

#1 Add Body Oil To Your Daily Routine

Most people use body oils as an emollient to keep their skin moisturized throughout the day. However, they are also a great way to make you smell good, too.

The reason is simple. Many essential oils contain plant compounds, such as grapefruit, lavender, and peppermint that are naturally beautiful fragrances. When you apply these oils, they soak into the skin, making you smell delightful up close. What’s more, they can make you glow more, too. And that’s always a good thing when you’re about to hit the office.

#2 Use Quality Soap

Soap quality varies dramatically from one brand to another. While they all contain the same basic skin-cleansing ingredients, scents can be quite different. Some smell great while others remind you of urinals.

Always choose a good quality soap. If you’re not sure which to pick, send off for some free samples. Always choose a soap that contains a moisturizer. If you don’t, you could wind up with dry skin.

#3 Understand How Scent Layering Works

Because so many brands now add scents to their products, understanding how scent layering works is essential. You don’t want to get into a situation where your base lotion masks your top scent or perfume. If you apply products that are too heavy, the scents will mix and you’ll wind up with an oily mess.

Sometimes scent layering can work. That is, you can apply multiple scent-containing products and they will all work together. However, on other occasions, they can clash.

As a general rule of thumb, you should only use one scented product on your skin for each outing, unless you understand how to combine scents or are using a set of carefully calibrated products from the same brand. Either choose a scented body lotion or a perfume.

#5 Transform Your Hair

Have you ever noticed that your hair starts smelling a little funny before the rest of your body? If so, you’re not alone. In fact, there’s a good reason for it. Because of its large surface area and oils released from the scalp, hair is one of the first places to lose freshness.

The good news is that you can fight back against this with hair fragrances and perfumes. These are spritzes specifically designed for the hair that mask, and sometimes neutralize, bad smells that can result from rancid sebum or pollution.

#5 Keep Your Deodorant Light-Scented

Deodorants and antiperspirants work in different ways. Deodorant is alcohol-based and kills bacteria that lurk in your underarm areas, similar to hand sanitizer. Antiperspirant, by contrast, prevents the buildup of moisture, thereby denying bacteria the water they need to grow and thrive. In both cases, the active ingredients are scent-free. Therefore, if you want to avoid your deodorant from defining how you smell, go for a lightly-scented product. They are rare, but they do exist.

#6 Spray Your Torso With Fragrance

Spraying your torso with fragrance might sound a little unusual, but it can be highly effective. It’s actually a way of making your scent more subtle and longer-lasting than, say, spraying your neck and wrists. It gives you more of an “aura” scent, rather than an “in your face” effect that is abrasive at the office.

#7 Put Scented Sachets In Your Clothing Drawers

You can also experiment with the highly innovative tactic of putting scented sachets in your clothes’ drawers. It’s an idea similar to spraying your closet with your favorite scent. As the scented sachet releases its aroma, it infuses with your clothing, helping it to smell more fragrant throughout the day. The pleasant undertone could mask any potentially unpleasant smells that might emerge after all-day use.

#8 Drink More Water

Drinking more water is ubiquitous advice for all sorts of reasons, including losing weight, feeling energetic, and keeping your skin looking radiant. However, it’s also essential if you want to smell good.

Bodies sweat, we know that much. But what you may not know is that sweat can have a toxic potency to it if you’re not hydrated well-enough. The reason for this is simple. When you drink water, it dilutes many of the unpleasant smells that can arise in your body, including in the mouth. So the more water you drink, the better you will smell.

#9 Spray Your Bed Sheets

Bed sheets often absorb our bodily odors, good and bad. With that said, it’s only natural that your bedsheets, mattress, pillows, and blankets may start to have a bad smell. This in turn, can lead your body to smelling similarly. And if you work in a cubicle or closed-off office, then you’re bound to bring that bad smell with you to work–no one wants to smell that!

The best way to prevent this is by spraying your bed sheets with all natural smelling scents–scents that create a relaxing, calm mood while also keeping you smelling great! Try a bed sheet spray, infused with scents that you love. They come in many scents like vanilla, lavender, eucalyptus, chamomile, and more. So the next time you wonder why you don’t smell good after dousing yourself with layered scents, check your bed!

#10 Hang Potpourri Closet Bags

These are nifty little bags that have amazing scents like lavender and chamomile. They work hard to keep your closet smelling great, but what’s even better, is that the smell also infuses into your hanging clothing. Because your clothes may have this smell, it is a good idea to go with scented potpourri bags that enhance your other scents. You wouldn’t want it clashing with your daily perfume or lotion scent.

The Takeaway

Smelling great all day long is possible by using the tips we’ve outlined above. All it takes is a bit of prep work, and some great smelling options at your fingertips!
